Exposure and Response Prevention or Systematic Desensitization is a helpful tool to start slowly exposing yourself to these feared elements in your life.
This treatment method involves creating a hierarchy of feared elements and slowly exposing yourself to those feared stimuli in a controlled manner. Relaxation and cognitive behavioral skills are used as part of this treatment to help decrease anxiety reactions to the fears. Over time, you can relearn how to respond to these fears and that these fears are not grounded in reality. Ultimately, this treatment modality will allow you to start participating in life again.
What to expect…
When you start treatment, we will gather information and complete a comprehensive assessment. This assessment will help us to identify the problems you are having and the limitations that these fears have created in your life. Resourcing activities will be provided to help you develop coping skills and strengthen your existing ability to cope with the anxiety you are feeling. Then, item by item, you will learn that these fears can be conquered. This process can be a safe way to start experiencing life again and to gain hope.
