We can help…
Experiencing a traumatic event changes your brain. You may no longer feel safe and may feel alienated from yourself and others. Our trauma-informed providers understand this and will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that recognizes the psychological, socio-emotional, and physiological impact trauma has had in your life. When a person experiences trauma, their mind blocks the normal processing of traumatic memories and the system is unbalanced. The resultant emotional wound festers and causes intense psychological suffering and poor mental health. EMDR helps remove these blocks so natural healing can resume.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is one of the key therapies recommended for treating trauma and loss by the World Health Organization. EMDR therapy has been shown to be effective with a wide range of psychological disorders that may have arisen from traumatic events in a person’s past.
What to expect…
The first few sessions are spent gathering information and understanding how your past influences your present and the difficulties you are dealing with in your life. Next, your provider will work on developing your inner resources and help you find ways to contain and manage your trauma responses. EMDR treatment involves an eight-phase standardized protocol to treat traumatic symptoms in a safe, therapeutic environment. Therapy involves bringing up images, thoughts, emotions, and body sensations associated with the trauma memory. Then, using bilateral stimulation (eye movements or alternate “tapping”) therapy facilitates adaptive resolution of those memories so they no longer have the power to overwhelm you in the present.
